Leptospermum laevigatum is considered as an invasive weed outside it’s narrow foreshore habitat (colonises readily from seed in poor and dry soils, can rapidly deprive other plant species of light, space, water and nutients, has probable allelopathic functions). but at the same time, provides habitat and sustenance to numerous indigenous insects in large numbers, and the upper reaches of which are known to be a prefered nesting sites for Butcher Bird groups. flowers September – December.
