In my paintings I like the physical, two dimensional surface to play with implied three dimensional space and objects.
I enjoy it. It can be seductive and rewarding to unravel the apparent layers to come once again to the realisation that you are looking at a surface with paint, pastels or markings.
I adapt the range, depth and contrast of colours and repeatedly rework whole areas in response to the shapes suggested.
By blending and adjusting colours direct on a surface, the handling of this surface creates paintings that feature both spontaneous and conserved elements.
