The Rub-Crowned Kinglet is one of the smallest songbirds in North America. It is 9-11 cms (3.5-4.3 in), having a wingspan of 16-18 cms ( 6.3-7.1 in), and weighing 5-10 grams (0.2-0.4 oz). It is a member of the kinglet family, but not closely related to other kinglets. It is put in its own subgenus, “Corthylio”. The males differ from the females only in that they have a red crown patch, which is usually concealed.
