On a cool winter late day a Great Blue Heron lands along an ocean tributary to hunt along the shoreline for small fish. This Great Blue Heron was successful in capturing several small fish as a friend and I watched, but due to lighting and very slow shutter speeds, I was not able to capture much action in movement.
Besides fish, Great Blue Herons feed on shellfish, insects, amphibians( mostly frogs, reptiles, insects and even small bird are occasionally eaten as well.

Great Blue Herons stand over 1 meter ( 3.3 ft ) in height and despite their large appearance, only weigh 2.3-2.7 kg (5-6 lbs). They are the largest and most widely distributed heron in Canada. During the breeding and post-breeding seasons it will venture as far north as Newfoundland and Prince William Sound in Alaska, as as far south as Mexico and the West Indies. During the winter season, Herons leave most of Canada, with the exception being the British Columbia coast, where herons reside all year round. They also winter across the United States and south to Panama, Columbia and Venezuela.
