UNIQUE by

A unique male Red-Winged Blackbird with unusual feather colors and patterns.
I first noticed this bird at my feeder last winter, but was unable to capture a close enough shot of him. Until I captured this shot of him while leaning out of my computer room window, I had not seen him since the winter before. I was shocked when I saw him and captured a few pics of him before he took off. Unfortunately, it was rather dark and rainy out so my shutter speed was slow. Thankfully however, I had my flash on which helped out a lot!

Wow! What a marvellous catch, Sandy. I’ve never seen a Redwing like this!

  • Neither had I until I saw this one and I’ve seen lots of them through the years. I was happy to see that he was still alive this winter and very happy to have been able to capture a shot of him to share. I’m hoping he may visit my yard again and hopefully on a sunny day when I am outside with my camera. lol Many kind thanks for your kind words Mike! : )

Amazing capture,Sandy,i have seen reported on “netnews” that something is causing them to fall out the sky and die also,do you have any clarification on that??

  • Thank you so much Lance! It’s funny you should mention the birds falling out of the sky, because when I was trying to find some info on strange colored Red-Winged Blackbirds, I found that news story popping up everywhere. Apparently, between 2000 and 5000 Red-Winged Blackbirds fell out of the sky in Arkansas on New Years Eve. They fell within a one mile radius. Prelim autopsies showed a lot of blunt trauma to the birds, but other than that, they still don’t know what caused them to drop dead. A day earlier 100 miles away, but in the same state approximately 100,000 Drum Fish were found dead along the Arkansas River.
