Ospreys also known as Fish Hawks and Fish Eagles are one of the most widespread birds of prey, found on every continent except Antarctica. They are typically found near both salt and freshwater inhabiting a variety of landscapes. Ospreys feed almost exclusively on fish and as a result are supreme fishers. They plunge feet first to pluck live fish from the water’s surface, often submerging themselves completely in the process. This skillful manoeuvre is aided by a few key adaptations including oily plumage, big feet and a reversible toe which allows them to carry sizeable fish whilst in flight.
