SUNNY SIDE
A lone Safflower stands proudly under the morning sunlight. I took this backlit shot in one of my flower gardens. I didn’t purposely grow this particular flower, but believe one of the birds must have dropped a Safflower seed and it germinated in my garden. lol When the flower went to seed, the birds enjoyed them!

Taken in raw, adobe RGB and aperture priority.
camera; canon 40D
Lens; canon EF 100- 400 L IS USM lens.
Manfrotto tripod and joystick head.
Taken at 1/50’s a f/9, 275 mm, man col bal 5700 kelvin, iso 200.
In PhotoshopCS2, some dodging on the mid toned areas of the back side of the flower to accent the details a little more. Sharpening via lab mode, lightness channel, unsharpmask amount 30, radius 3, threshold 2. No cropping.

Thank you so kindly! It is that magical early morning light! I always find myself drawn to venture out early in the mornings when the sun is shining. The sun set low in the sky at this time is so much warmer, casting interesting shadows,.....it’s almost magical! : )

I love the way you use the light on in your photos, it makes them especially good and worth looking at. In my opinion the light is the most important thing in a good shot, and you are as already mentioned, using it in a brilliant way, my compliment and a FAV.

Thank you so much Jens! Yes, I agree that lighting is one of the important aspects to a photo. Also important are composition, exposure, focus and dof! You are so right Sandy, but all photos even those with a great composition, and DOF, could be totally ruind by bad light, ore as a minimum lose there speciality. Exposure, light, can save even a bad photo, by that I dont mean that this one are having bad composition, bad focus, no no, but the light here, in my opinion is that great that it have deserved to be mentioned special.
Other I agree with you…..Iight cant stand alone, there is as you have mentioned, there are also noice, artisfacting, no fixed focus point and other things to pay attention. So I agree.
