Cubes and Robbers

San Diego, United States

Artist's Description

-This was created in Adobe Illustrator.
-The goal of this artwork was to make a black-and-white project with three related figures.
-My idea originated from the age-old concept of cops and robbers. In order to make them unique, I made them into cubes. The Cubes and Robbers are three separate cubes, all involved in one bank robbery of the Cube Bank in Cube City.
Their stories:
The Robber
The robber is a cube using advanced prototype technology. He uses a new force to overwhelm the Cube Bank and steal its money: miniature cubes. These miniature cubes have made him the embodiment of technological progress, as they are actually carried in the empty space inside him. He is happy because he knows he will escape the sheriff, and thus obtain a large amount of (illegal) profit.
The Cop:
The cop is an old-fashioned cube, relying on his years of experience that have hardened and seasoned him. His many years serving the city have promoted him to sheriff. Unfortunately for the cop, his old ways will not help him catch this technologically advanced robber. He has no expression because even though he will not catch the robber, it will not affect him directly.
The Bank Teller:
The bank teller has run the Cube Bank for many years, and has always been able to foil attempted robberies with the help of cops. However, this robber, with the help of miniature cubes, was able to get in and out of the bank too fast for backup to arrive. He holds the key to the bank, which he had to forcibly give to the robber.
-I made extensive use of shapes in order to make the characters.
-I also used the Pen Tool in order to make objects such as the monocle chain.
