Believe that you can do it
And you’ll always find it true
That if you keep on trying
You’ll somehow make it through

Believe that there is goodness
And many folk are kind
Then in spite of pain and sorrow
Life’s sunshine you will find.

Raymond Charles Watson (1931 – 2008)

Final Words...

This poem was found written on a recently purchased notepad, bought for my late father who was suffering from lung cancer. It was found amongst his things and was written in his typical block letter hand and signed R C Watson. My family were heartened to read this words (we had not got him down as a poet!) and they were read aloud at his funeral service on Monday 7th April 2008. He was born, worked, lived and died within a few miles of Askern, South Yorkshire and his ashes were scattered on Stomach Hill close to the site of his childhood home and his adult workplace – the Coalite plant.
