Dedicated to all Veterans

A few thoughts regarding being in the service of one’s country

From the first of the Few, to the last of the Many
In years to come there’ll be hardly any
Prepared for Sovereign and Country to sign
Willing to put their lives on the line.

Ordinary men just like me and you
Serving their nation – willing to do
Whatever it takes to keep you and me
Living where life is safe, fair and free.

We followed our forebears in battle formation
Ever determined to defend our little nation
In the air, on the oceans, at sea and on land
A unique and unified, disciplined band.

We all pulled together and trained for our task
Worked hard at whatever our country might ask
No matter what race or colour or creed
Our great bond of loyalty was strong – guaranteed.

Comradeship blossomed when service was rendered
And lingers long after the conflict has ended
As age takes it’s toll and our numbers dwindled
Past times are recalled, fond memories rekindled.

Tributes to the fallen are right, fine and good
But the living remain and are oft overlooked
Proud to be numbered with such honourable men
Oh to be young once more, to be asked again.

I think this work is just brilliant, a great tribute to our armed forces, past and present.
