Alone

Once upon a time, and for a very long time, Ella felt she would never escape her awful imprisonment. In the empty room, abandoned and alone, her screams of anger and frustration filled the unheeding darkness. Sustained by unimaginable hurt, she gripped the bars and wailed for either salvation or exhaustion to claim her.

In the next room, her jailors listened. Eventually, they relented.

‘Martin, it can’t go on like this,’ she whispered wearily.

‘Yes, I know,’ he answered with a sigh.

Leaving his wife’s side, he trudged to their baby’s room, collected Ella, and took her to their bed. And they lived happily ever after.

Interesting….I’ve always wondered what babies were thinking. Gosh, I hope they don’t see us as “jailers”. I always tried to put myself in their place….and do what it took to let them know they were safe and loved….imagine being that helpless….I sure wouldn’t want to be there. Maybe that’s why we don’t “remember” being so young…. it must be scary if you get the wrong sort of parents. Great piece…Debi

Ah, almost everything in life is a matter of perspective. I’m glad Ella won out, she probably needed a little comforting. You are so good. Smiles from Jane.
