Painted at 16×20 at 400 DPI, which was down to a 1 pixel brush in most every spot of the work , and one of my first digital paintings in years.

On the move: An army of airships and foot soldiers and something more, swimming in the aether.

Every last bit of this is incredibly detailed, with a maddening amount of coverage of painted glyphs as textures on leather and metal.

The series “Airships and Tentacles” is a collection of strange-fiction steampunk inspired works done as engravings, paintings in oil and acrylic, pencils, colored pencils, inks, wood sculpture, kinetic sculpture (the 2-ton wind and solar-powered “Infernal Device”), automata, and other media – and in wanting to have one really intensive digital piece to finish the collection, I set to work on this: Over 300 hours of work in microscopic detail.

I am also offering 11 of these as giclees on canvas (10 in the limited edition, 1-super-size one to be repainted and offered at an art showing) on my site.
