On the Smithy's Wall #2
This still life was shot using natural light and a longish exposure while on a camera club outing at Timbertown, an historic theme park at Wauchope, west of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a lightly overcast summer day.
The photograph was made from inside the Blacksmith’s shop with low diffused light washing in from the open double door. Another example of how I photograph the light and not just the subject so I can create a mood shot not a snapshot.
This is a close-up crop made from the original “On the Smithy’s Wall #1”, suggested by a fellow camera club member that you can see here: http://www.redbubble.com/people/inport/art/801041-1-on-the-smithys-wall-1
Camera: Fuji S9600; Manual Mode; f/ 8; 1.5sec; 13mm; WB Daylight; ISO 80; Tripod mounted.
Processing: S7RAW & Photoshop CS.
Enjoy!

BEAUTIFUL PHOTO DG. I’M MUST SIT AT YOUR FEET MORE TO LISTEN AND LEARN. THE MORE I TRY, THE MORE FRUSTRATED I GET WITH THOSE LONGISH EXPOSURE. I WOULD GO BACK TO BASICS IF I ONLY KNEW WHERE THE BASICS BEGAN. I’M NOT SURE THIS DIGITAL STUFF EVEN HAS A BEGINNING. SAVE ME A COPY OF YOUR NEXT BOOK, I’M FIRST IN LINE TO LEARN ALL ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHING LIGHT RATHER THAN SUBJECT.

“Lesson 1: Don’t even take the camera out of the bag until you have fully assesed the scene before you, making special note of exactly what the light is doing to the subject by walking around and looking at it from different angles, left-right-up-down, frontal lighting, side lighting, back lighting or lit from above.” 8-)

Timbertown also has reasonable disability access although you may need some help in places. You and your camera could have a great time there. 8-)

Mate, as I said to Yellow Jacket above, just sit and study the light on the subject then walk around to find your best angle and build your exposure around that. Don’t wait too long though or the light will slip away. 8-)
