Litoria fallax (Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog - Brown Form)
This handsome little Litoria fallax (Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog – Brown form) , about 2.5cm (1 inch) long was photographed beside a pond at a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friend’s property at Kundabung , just south of Kempsey, NSW, Australia, on a lovely autumn day.
An amazing fact I discovered recently was that these frogs which are usually green can also be brown or a mixture of green and brown and can change their colour depending on their environment.

Dennis, you have the gift mate. I’m sure if I tried that it would jump for sure. :)
Dennis Gay replied
G’day Max,
Thank you for being first to spot this li’l brown hopper and for leaving your very generous comment. Much appreciated mate.
It is surprising just how close you can get to these little fellas before they “hop off” on you. With this one I could even put my finger behind the stem and make the frog come around for a profile shot. Slow, steady movement usually does it.
If I had a good DSLR with an equally good close-up lens I could sit back and snipe these critters from a decent distance but for subjects this size, even on Macro Mode I have to get very close. I may bag one good shot out of ten but I just love the challenge.
The biggest problem is getting the two planes of the lens as parallel as possible to the two planes of the subject due to the very shallow depth of field in close-up photography even when using a very small aperture.

Yea, you have the gift for sure. How you find and capture these beauties is beyond me. Such great colour and clarity in this work. The detail is striking and very sharp were it needs to be!
Superb work Dennis, your best ’ reptilian ’ work…....in my opinion :)

Dennis Gay replied
G’day Stevie,
Many thanks for that great wrap for this amphibious effort. So glad you like my little brown friend.
I find all my subjects by being where they live then walking around and around with my eyes peeled until I spot something – if I am lucky.
This one was different thoough. A camera club mate was at the edge of the pond with a huge Nikon and an even larger lens, picking off dragonflies. He spotted it and showed me where it was. ;-)

Wonderful close-up of this adorable frog! (I love frogs.) I don’t think I’ve ever seen a brown frog before, so this photograph is more than just a photograph, it’s also a nature guide, (but notice I didn’t review the last spider…) :-) Excellent jobb
Dennis Gay
G’day Judith,
Awww c’mon! Don’t be so “girly” about spiders. 8-)
Thank you so much for your “Wonderful…” wrap for this li’l brown tree hopper.
This species is not as common as our little green tree frogs so finding one is a bit of a thrill.
So glad it caught your discerning eye and added to your edification.

another stunning capture! detail and color is excellent
Dennis Gay replied
G’day Cory,
These are not as common as the little green tree frogs around here. That and their colouring makes them a lot harder to find.
A very big THANK YOU for leaving your most encouraging ”...stunning…” wrap for my posing amphibian.
