Autumn
THE SUBJECT:
A beautifully backlit inflorescence of an Australian Native Grass
THE LOCATION:
photographed along The Kenny Walk in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a lovely autumn afternoon.
THE MAKING OF ‘Autumn’:
The back light from the warm autumn sun and the lovely golden brown of the grass head to me seem to be a good symbol for our autumn season.
Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/8 @ 1/250sec, Manual focus, ISO80, Hand held.
S7RAW & Photoshop CS.

G’day Dennis,
I just have to set my brain on autumn…..
So, done! I think you’re absolutely right, this is a good symbol for autumn. Very well spotted, excellently captured without any disturbance in the background. Wonderful backlight. And a most lovely crop.

I almost – almost – gave up on making this shot as I was getting a lot of flare but while I was experimenting with the exposure and focus the sun moved just enough to give me a clear shot.

I have been after a suitable subject to try this out for some time. I made a similar shot a couple of years ago with my old Fuji S5500 so I was very keen to see what this machine would do.

You bring out the insect in me!!! ....... Now theres a Popsicle!!!!! ........ lol
Autumn is my favourite season – born in it love the weather of it & being a red head I prefer to wear the colours of it etc…. but you’re right there are not many Aussie things to tell us of it’s coming …. oaks being an introduced species here and all. So yes this would be an autumnal thing for us. I wonder what else…..??
Dennis Gay replied

My thanks to all who have supported this work. Without such encouragement and support this photograph could well be still lingering in a folder deep in my hard drive never to see the light of competition.
