Volvariella speciosa #1

Volvariella speciosa #1

THE SUBJECT:
A small colony of Volvariella speciosa in glorious natural light late on an autumn afternoon.

THE LOCATION:
Beside a track in the Kattang Nature Reserve at Dunbogan, NSW, Australia.

THE MAKING of ‘Volvariella speciosa #1’:
I was on a fungi safari with a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate and we were heading back to the car after a very successful hunt when I spotted these fungi just beside the track with the lowering sun making very good back lighting.
I removed the tripod mounting plate from the camera to get it as low as possible for the perspective and to ensure I had part of the back lit caps showing.
The aim of this shot was to make a good image of the fungi and to show them in their environment.
Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/11 @ 1/5sec, Manual focus, ISO80, Tripod, Timer.
Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.

Visit the Fungi & Lichen collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more fabulous fungi.

UPDATE: 15-7-09
This little fungi colony was placed 2nd in the Fungilicious Group’s Depth of Field Challenge.

UPDATE: 11-8-09
These trackside fungi were awarded a MERIT and JUDGE’S CHOICE in the Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club’s July 2009 Open Competition in the Digital Colour Section.

Enjoy!

    Sveikas Clark!

It’s not so much the getting down to make these photographs, it’s the getting back up that hurts.
