Omphalotus nidiformis (Ghost Fungus) #7
THE SUBJECT:
A lovely display of Omphalotus nidiformis (Ghost Fungus) in the glorious natural light of an autumn afternoon.
THE LOCATION:
Beside a track in the Kattang Nature Reserve at Dunbogan, NSW, Australia.
THE MAKING of ‘Omphalotus nidiformis (Ghost Fungus) #7’:
I was on a fungi safari with a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate and we heading back to the car after a very successful hunt when I spotted these fungi low on a tree trunk and almost hidden by foliage.
Clearing most of the foliage away allowed that beautiful light to wash over the subject from the side.
I only had my small tripod with me so I flattened my wheat bag out on top of some small branches at the base of the tree, set the tripod on top and extended one leg fully so it snagged on a branch for stability.
Fuji S9600: RAW, Manual settings of f/3.2 @ 1/5sec, Manual focus, ISO80, Tripod, Timer.
Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.
Visit the Fungi & Lichen collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more fabulous fungi.
NOTE:
I lightened the image slightly and gave the saturation a little tweak for printing on Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss Media and it did a marvellous job on the colours and gave the image good depth.
UPDATE: 9-6-09
My ghostly fungi were awarded a MERIT certificate in the Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club’s May 2009 Competition in the Open Large Colour Print section.
Enjoy!
