Blue Tongue
THE SUBJECT:
A close-up detail study of a Strelitzia reginae (Bird of Paradise) flower, catching only what the light was doing to the subject.
THE LOCATION:
On Town Green in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia on a lovely autumn day.
THE MAKING of ‘Blue Tongue’:
There were hundreds of these regal flowers in bloom in their large clumps around the base of the trees in that area of Town Green but it took quite a while for me to find a good clean specimen in just the right light.
Fuji S9600: RAW, Super macro, f/3.7 @ 1/1100sec, ISO80, Manual focus, Hand held.
Visit the Garden Flowers collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more floral delights.
UPDATE: 21-03-09
I have increased the saturation slightly and made a 7×11 print on Ilford Galerie Smooth High Gloss Media and it turned out beautifully really making the orange and blue sing!
UPDATE: 15-04-09
This stunning Bird of Paradise has been featured in the Former DPF Members Group.
UPDATE: 12-5-09
My blue tongue was awarded a Merit Certificate in the Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club’s April 2009 Open Competition in the Large Colour Print section.
Enjoy!
