Closing Over
THE SUBJECT:
One of Port’s finest bodyboarders rapt in the ride inside the tube just before it closes over.
THE LOCATION:
Sitting on my usual rocky perch at the end of the breakwater at Town Beach , Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia on a sunny winter day.
THE MAKING of ‘Closing Over’:
I shot this much earlier in the day than usual which caused a problem by filling the tube with shadow. Therefore I used a slightly slower shutter speed than normal which opened up the aperture as much as it would go at that zoom. When combined with the slight opacity of the wave this gave me a very good image that I could then open up during processing.
Fuji S9600: RAW, 1/800sec @ f/4.9, Continuous focus, ISO80, Hand held.
Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.

“corduroy day” – now that’s an unusual expression however the shot was not made on 11/11. 8-)
All the surfers did indeed have a great time that day until the surf petered out later in the afternoon.
