The Strut
This angry looking strutting pair of male Larus novaehollandiae (Silver Gulls) , was photographed on the beach at Kattang Nature Reserve , Dunbogan , NSW, Australia on a great summer day.
The footprints are where I did my strut down the beach earlier.

G’day Marvin,
So great to see you enjoying your walk along the beach and that you have spotted my pair of rival male gulls.
My warmest thanks for your encouraging “Excellent…” wrap for my fine feathered photography.
It was most interesting to watch the antics of this quarrelsome pair. They must have had some real personal problem as they flew right away from the main flock to have their arguement in private.

Kofoed
He – he, Dennis, this is a magnificent capture. They really look angry and besides that they have a very funny and arrogant expression. Did you steal the fish they were going to enjoy for supper?
Great composition and beautiful lighting. The blue and sand backdrop makes it very pleasing to look at.
Great catch, mate.

Muhos gracias for your most encouraging and interesting “…magnificent…” wrap for my fine feathered photography.
I doubt if they were interested in fish. All they had on their tiny birdie minds was aggression. I doubt if I have ever seen a happy seagul anyway.

Just like a married couple, he said something she did’nt like so she strutted off
Well seen Dennis

Thank you so much for your most encouraging and interesting “…well seen…” wrap for my fine feathered photography.
If you read the narrative you will see they are two males. Very agro with each other and determined to sort it out. But your comparison to an argueing couple is quite apt.

Dennis
patapping
oops so you did, BUT how does one tell the difference with birds, please explain!!!!!!!!!
Dennis Gay
G’day again Patapping,
Sexing birds is easy – as long as you can catch the bird. When you carch one, give it a little shake and if it rattles, it’s a boy! 8-)
Only pulling your leg. I don’t know how they sex birds but from what little I know about Aussie seagulls I think these are male due to their darker beak and leg colour and in the pure aggression these two displayed. (If I am wrong will someone please let me know).

They had attidue alright! Even though there was a lot of squawking, flapping of wings and pushing and shoving, no blood was spilt and not a feather out of place.

Dennis Gay replied
G’day Paul,

Funnily enough after all their squabbling, posing and strutting a larger than usual wave washed up ashore and one of the pair flew off never to return. Result = A draw!
