Peeping Pelican
Meet Percy the Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) . He was fast asleep when I first saw him but popped his eye open as I was setting up my camera.
The shot was made at the Crowdy Bay, NSW, Australia, on a very grey, damp, humid early summer afternoon.
Fuji S9600: f/4.5 @ 1/1000sec, Manual Focus, ISO 80, camera resting on a pylon.
Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.

A very unusual shot Dennis.
A version of a bird on a stick…A Pelican on a pylon…lol

G’day John,
Glad you could join me at Crowdy Bay checking out the marina on such a grey day and that you are the very first Bubbler to comment on my pole sitting Pelican.
Many thanks for your most encouraging ”...unusual shot…” wrap for my Pelicanus photography.
One thing about this bird-on-a-stick photograph is that it is a very big bird on a very big stick! 8-)

Thank you kindly for your most encouraging “Very fine…” wrap for my Pelicanus photography.
Pelicans are agueably the most photographed subject in the world so to try to keep my Pelican shots above the common herd I am always on the lookout for something just a bit different or quirky. I think this one fits the bill. (Pun intended). 8-)

Merci beaucoup for your most encouraging “…excellent…” wrap for my Pelicanus photography.
Because they are a subject that has been shot to death by photographers for years and years, I am very selective about which Pelican shot I make. There have been times when I have walked right past them and not even taken the camera out of the bag because there would be nothing different or exciting about any shot I made. But when I find something like this and so close too, well….. 8-)

My utmost thanks for your most encouraging “…Great…” wrap for my Pelicanus photography.
I think it was just a bit cheesed off because I woke it up. It made a few Pelican grunting noises and kept glaring at me with that big eye. 8-)
