Native Bees on a Thistle
THE SUBJECT:
Two Trigona carbonaria (Native Bees) as having a great time collecting pollen from an Onopordum acanthium (Scotch Thistle).
It seems then that even though the thistle is an exotic species to Australia and has become a noxious weed, it does do something for at least one native species.
THE LOCATION:
On a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate’s property at Kundabung , between Kempsey and Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia, early on a summer afternoon.
THE MAKING of ‘Native Bees on a Thistle’:
Fuji S9600: RAW, Macro, 1/800sec @ f/3.7, ISO80, Manual focus, Hand held.
Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.

This is a nice vivid splash of colour in the frame Dennis.
I like your viewpoint and the choice of depth of field to add emphasis to the main bloom.
welld one, regards, Nick

G’day Nick,
Good to see you up at Kundabung strolling through the property and that you are the very first Bubbler to comment on my bees-on-a-thithle shot.
Many thanks for your complimentary and encouraging ”...well done..” wrap for my apiarian photographic efforts.
As soon as I hit the Manual Focus button the flower just popped out of the screen. 8-)

Trivia: The thistles sure are sharp but the native bees are stingless. 8-)
