Thelionema caespitosum (Tufted Blue Lily #2)
I am indeed a fortunate wildflower photographer! This is the very first Thelionema caespitosum (Tufted Blue Lily) of the season and I found it!
I found it along the Ocean Drive Fire Trail in Queen’s Lake Nature Reserve, North Haven, NSW, Australia, on the eleventh day of spring, (very early for this species), under a lightly overcast sky.
Fuji S9600: RAW, Marco, f/4.5 @ 1/180sec, Manual focus, Tripod, Timer.
Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.

A beautiful flower, and very nice capture. But what I like most about this is the encircling buds – almost protective. The darker background helps the flower stand out in contrast. And of course, lovely creamy bokeh :)
Nice composition, Dennis.

G’day Mark,
Nice to see you out along the fire trail on my wildflower safari and that you are the very first Bubbler to comment on my beautiful blue wild jewel.
Thank you so much for your most encouraging and detailed ”...lovely creamy bokeh…” wrap for my native lily efforts.
I was very fortunate with the composition really. If I had been there an hour either way the light would have been different and this angle just would not have worked. As it was I had the little tripod set up all weird and wonky and I was like a pretzel to be able to see the screen clearly. No way I could use the viewfinder. I love my Fuji’s tiltable screen! 8-)

You are quite right. My problem though was that the sky was growing darker fairly quickly and the breeeze began to blow in strong gusts. I though I might get caught in a storm being so far from the car so I hightailed it out of there right after this shot.

Oh I didn’t capture it. It was well rooted to the spot. But I did set about making a decent photograph though. 8-)

So nice to be thought of kiddo. Whenever you see a likely sibject under whatever conditions you just HAVE to give it a go. You can learn so much from this type of shot even if most end up in the bin. 8-)
