End of a Malibu Ride #1
THE SUBJECT:
Three young surfers emerge from the sea after a long and satisfying heat in the Malibu competition and stand out well in the backlight of a late afternoon sun.
THE LOCATION:
The 2007 Mal de Mer Mal Longrider Club Inc Competition, held at Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills , NSW, Australia, about a twenty minute drive south of Port Macquarie , on a late winter’s day.
THE MAKING of ‘End of a Malibu Ride #1’:
I was out with a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate to see what we could bag at the event. It event is open to surfers of all ages from around the country and around the world.
I had been hunting for some good subjects to build up my monochrome collection and when I saw these kids walking out of the surf, I thought this scene was too good to let pass without having a go. I had to wait for them to be silhouetted against the white water and sand as much as possible for a well defined silhouette.
Fuji S9600: RAW, 1/800sec, f/6.4, ISO80, Hand held.
Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.
