Pelican in Reflecting Light

This fine head study of a Pelecanus conspicillatus (Australian Pelican) , was made along the Fisherman’s Moorings on the Hastings River in Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia, late on an autumn afternoon.

As he swam up and down the line of fishermen hoping for a hand-out, he turned on the water to be at a diagonal to the low afternoon sunlight and the light reflected off the ripples in the water, giving this wonderful light and shadow affect along the beak, neck and body.

Camera: Fuji S5500; High Res .jpg; Aperture Priority; f/4; 1/600sec; 57mm; EC -2; Auto Focus; WB Daylight; ISO 100; Spot Metering; Centre Focussing; Hand held.
