Wetting a Line
One of my favourite portraits of my Dad, doing what he loves more then anything else in the world fishing. If he could he’d spend every day fishing, as it is he sometimes wets a line three or four times a day. On this occasion I decided to get up early and document him enjoying his sport. This is the result, it has special sentimental value to me, but I felt like sharing it as something different to what I’ve been posting recently.

Craig I like the story as much as the image, great take, that light on his arm and the shadow, his profile, awesome take.
Charles Dobbs, about 1 year ago
Wonderful shot Craig! Just the sentimental value of this picture alone makes it priceless.
Craig Goldsmith, about 1 year ago
Thanks for the feedback, and Stuart I’m sure neither myself or my Dad would be offend by the use of Chap, I’m sure he’s been called worse. :)

Did he catch any fish that day ?
Craig Goldsmith, about 1 year ago
He has a knack, he catches fish almost every time he goes out, he doesn’t keep many, usually just enough for a nice meal at the end of the day. We were very spoilt growing up, always fresh delicious fish, none of this frozen or store bought junk.
And yes he did catch fish that day. (BTW off topic but I found this gem playing around with lightroom the first time, I pointed it at a 200GB directory of images, it crashed a few times but in the end I found this amongst the many images).

Portraits are so interesting and this one is just wonderful, especially knowing that he is your Dad. Very precious.
Great contrast black against the gold.
Hate to be cliched but this would be a great Father’s Day card. Hear me people? Those people who are lucky enough to still have their fathers in their lives that is. Best wishes, Michelle.
Craig Goldsmith, about 1 year ago
Hi Michelle, I actually didn’t think it had much commerical value and it also felt wrong to be making money from this image so I actually have the lowest markup of all my images on this one at only 10%. I never even thought of father’s day, great thinking. I have before I joined redbubble given it to his parents as a gift, they really liked it, his Dad too is a crazy keen fisherman now aged 86 and still out at the beach or the local river.

Once again this is a wonderful image =) I don’t know how to reply to comments on my own page, but to answer your question; yes, I did dye my hair since that photo was taken. I cut it short, too, and I regret it so much. I want my long blonde hair back! But it was really thoughtful of you to notice =)
Craig Goldsmith, 11 months ago
Cadence – Replying on your own page is pretty much the same as posting here, but thanks for dropping past and answering my question. Your long blonde hair was certainly nice, I can’t really tell from the profile shot what your dark short hair is like, other then pretty short at fringe level.
Cadence, 11 months ago
Oh okay – thanks, Craig! =D Then I posted a reply to your other question on the photo there =) Thank you so much for your kindness and your help!

I like the fact he’s your dad, if I got one of my half dad as good as this, I would be a happy man.
Suprman, 11 months ago
I love the composition of this photo and the silloette aspect of your dad is a great contrast to the vibrant sky. There is something about photos of family that hold so much more than your “average” shot.

Your shot has such an amazing feel.
A detail I love about it is the line of sunshine on the arm.
Craig Goldsmith, 10 months ago
There are lots of little details I like, the sun on the arm, the fact you can make out my Dad’s glasses, the fishing line faintly visible, the expression on his face of concentration and the OOF yacht mast int he background.
David Taylor, 10 months ago
Great use of light Craig!

This is truly a heart-moving photo. I bet your dad loves it too. Your dad sounds like my husband – he’d rather be fishing (or hunting) than just about anything! : ) He’s almost in pain if he can’t fish, lol. : ) Hey, I’ve submitted a group request, to be entitled “Hunting and Fishing the Great Outdoors,” and this is exactly the kind of work I’d love to have in it! If you’re interested, keep your eyes open… : )
