Red shanked carder bee,Bombus ruderarius. by

Another first for me,I saw this drone red shanked carder bee in Blackburn, lancashire uk. Id verified byth Bumblebee conservation trust it is a rare bee that is a UK BAP listed species. Note the red hairs on its legs. Threse hairs distinguish it from the red tailed bumble bee whose hairs are black.I was very excited when I spotted this and couldn’t believe my eyes.
Taken with a canon 450D and a canon 100mm macro lens. Processed in cs4.

Almost retired, and a photography addict! I own a canon 7D and 5 canon lenses. I love playing in photoshop! I’m a fan of HDR if it isn’t too overdone.I also dabble in fractal art occasionally.

great macro Sandra, i see quite a few round here. great shot

  • Thanks Loraine. Are you sure the ones you see are not red tailed bumble bees, these look the same except for the red hairs on the legs. They are rare and this is the only one i have ever seen.
