An early bumble bee, Bombus pratorum on a scabious flower in my back yard in Blackburn, Lancashire. This is a small bee rarely seen from July onwards. It’s interesting to note that all the bees in my back yard are this sort and nearly all the ones at the front are carder bees with the occasional buff tailed or white tailed species. it must be something to do with the length of their tongues and their flower preferences. Taken with a canon 450D and canon 100mm in my back yard. Minimal processing in cs4.
