Purling Brook Falls, Springbrook National Park

Located in World Heritage listed Springbrook National Park, Purling Brook is one of the most pristine catchments in Australia. The falls plunge 100 metres over the cliff into Purling Brook Gorge, shattering into a miasma of swirling waters and spray.

The path to the waterfall base winds down the side of the gorge for several kilometres, until you reach a cement path which in fact leads around under the waterfall itself. Typically the waters tumble well beyond the path, but the occasional gust of wind will bring them back to the cliff face, saturating whoever may be in their way.

There was quite a lot of water flying about when the shots for this stitched image were taken – the waterfall is around 100 metres tall and generates its own mini climate at the base – but fortunately none of the frequent droplets on the lens hindered the photography and final result.
