I’m an artist because it feels so good to be creative. Doing a painting feeds my soul and enriches my life. The gods blessed me and gave me enough talent for seed so that I could nurture it and experience its growth. I’m an artist in the state of becoming and it’s very exciting and gratifying to me to know that my artistic horizons are expanding in directions that I never expected. Having my art appreciated by others and selling it is a bonus, but all I really ask is that the creative spirit continues to reside in me and help me to produce ever more interesting and challenging work.
I love working and playing with color and sometimes use it unconventionally. An example would be painting a lighthouse scene using only white and blue in the painting for an interesting effect, or a lavender moonlit mountain and water scene. I prefer to produce pieces that evoke an emotional response in myself and the viewer.
Although I was interested in art as a child and as a young woman, I’m a late bloomer as a serious artist, having reached a point in my life where I can no longer leave my creative urges on the back burner. It is in the last couple of years that I have given myself over to the passion of art and ceased considering myself a dabbler. To my own surprise, I recently discovered that I enjoy painting a type of abstract art that I consider to be somewhat spiritual or metaphysical in nature. I like to call it my Soul Art.
Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) said, “Every artist dips his brush in his own soul and paints his own nature into his pictures.”

I LOVE TO PAINT. I WILL PAINT WITH A BRUSH OR I WILL PAINT WITH WORDS. IF I CAN BRING PLEASURE TO THE EYE OR TO THE HEART WITH MY WORDS OR MY ART, THEN I’M A HAPPY SOUL. A. JILL GAEBEL

Summer turned / And was startled
Her innocence and wonder gave joy to the heart
They whisper to my Spirit’s ear / and touch my heart.
She tells me in surprise / of confessions of love
How many times have I made the gods laugh
One contemplates with desire, / the other with uncertainty / and a sense of fascinating danger.
