Origins

So lovingly I’ve been fashioned
by the same hands that have painted the skies
in the same blue as the angels’ eyes,
so intuitive is that whisper upon the wind
that seeks to give voice to the mystery within.

The creator and the created share the same passions
for I am wonderfully enraptured and sustained
every hour that I spend painting the wind
and weaving the rain.

I wander the fringe of so many fields
delicately confused by colours,
delightfully frustrated by the abstractions
that dare me to give them face and form.
I smile as words spill forth from my pen
and as shapes are born
when my brush kisses bare canvas.
Never have I been so near
to stumbling upon the answers
of who I am and why I am here.

I have found faith in these quiet moments
as my hands fashion something new,
a creative dance
between my soul and my mind
and I wonder,
How can all things be the result of chance?
God alone fashions the infinity of flowers
and paints the fields in their coloured splendor,
each one wrought with such tender care,
and should flowers merit such meticulous design
surely it must be a sign
that you and I are works of art –
the marriage of a willing spirit
and dexterity
shaped by able hands
and a loving heart.

What power and genius must He possess
to have blinked the stars into being
from light and clay and soul and dust
the universe I am seeing.
The scope of such a masterpiece
sends my finite mind reeling
into new realms where I am unable
to describe these rapturous feelings.

My will bends to the unformed possibilities
of a universe’s desire
who has chosen me as a medium of expression,
to exist in reflection
of the hands that formed and made me.

I become pure joy.

The universe is teeming with wonders
both small and great
yet it is entirely mine to discover and create.
Without question, an unending journey awaits
and as both creator and creation
I can relate.
At last, I have found a solid reason for faith
and discovered the reason why I am compelled
so completely
to create.

Origins

This poem is the result of a sort of epiphany I had a few weeks ago. While I’ve always held the belief that the universe (and all of life) was not a cosmic accident, but rather a deliberate creation, I have finally figured out why I hold that belief.

Beautiful piece of writing with depth and an understanding of where we originate and to where we will go and all we can achieve inbetween.
