Friendship in the digital age - Facebookby Ina Mar
The ambiguity and irony of the notion of “friendship” in the digital age. Do you ever feel alone, even though hundreds of people are following your daily activities on twitter, facebook, RedBubble and other social networking sites?
I designed this 2010 for a competition on the theme “Privacy in the Digital Age”.
So true, so true Ina. This is a profound and powerful work that captures the loneliness and isolation of the digital age and how you can have 100s of eve 1000s of friends and yet be so lonely and so so alone. We have never been so connected virtually and so disconnected personally. I think about our cyborg realities a lot and wrote about this in my piece 11-11-11. Love your insight, creativity and imagination. Beautiful important work my friend.
excellent graphic – right on point! “oversharing”… yes; do we want to become 15 minute stars in another’s cosmos, or do we want those who care. [ don’t use Facebook – never will ]
You did a really good job on this. That pos/neg reversal repeptition works great and reinforces message. The mapped out dotted lines are also reminenscent of stiching or threads which is a additional layer to the message. like the type face too. my only suggestion ( just one- type formatting issue) is to maybe try a realign of block of text on bottom. Overall I LOVE this piece. Good for you. Did you win?
thank you Yvonca for this insightful comment! No, I did not win.
