Artist's Description

A casual wife and woman, torn between her two roles.

Translation of Igor Shrayer’s digital artwork Cold as Ice, Hot as Fire for the purpose of SoJie 13 (Solo’s 13th Juried Invitational Exhibition of Visual Arts)
Artists were asked to pair up with digital artists to create their translation of a digital artwork. Translated work happens in an open workshop atmosphere where works in progress are shared before the artwork progresses to the next stage.

Original digital artwork by Igor Shrayer

I like Igor’s idea a lot, because it is simple and effective. His image seems at a first glance superficial, the handsome, fashionable man with sunglasses in several colour variations, but it has a very profound message and captures the essence of this man. I love the contradiction between the fact that he is showing his several facets (red / blue, hot / cold) and at the same time hiding the eyes, which are the greatest tool of expression of emotions! Self-confident, with a rich emotional world but not letting anyone step too close to his boundaries.

I thought I would like to transpose Igor’s image into the women’s world and capture a woman’s facets. My idea was a woman in frontal position, the left part in blue and wearing clothes, the right part in red and without clothes. At the left and right parts, men’s hands pulling the woman’s hands, like tearing her apart.
As I was drawing this, I started thinking about what I really wanted to express. Is it a woman with two facets: cold and hot? Or is it a woman torn apart by the duality of her reality/duties versus wishes/dreams? Or is it the way a man wishes a woman: both loyal to her daily duties (family, work) and sensual/sexy?

I thought I would leave this question open to your interpretations.
