The original pencil drawing is available here Credits: Lullaby written in Yiddish by H. Lejwik (Lewi Halpern)
_My English translation attempt: Lay your head on my knees – so it’s laying good Small children fall asleep – Big ones have to be cradled Children have toys -lots of toys – they can play whenever they want. Grown-ups are themselves, their own toys – they always have to want more.
German translation by Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger Leg den Kopf auf meine Knie, so ist es gut liegen. Kleine Kinder schlafen schon, große muß man wiegen. Kinder haben Spielzeug viel, spielen wann sie wollen. Große sind sich selbst zum Spiel, müssen ewig wollen.
so beautiful and inspiring again (… I used to know a tiny little German(just enough to be able to translate with dictionary) … I will translate for myself later when more time ….)
Thank you so much Anna. It’s a lullaby for “big children”. I am sorry the English translation is missing, I will try to translate it as soon as I get the time…
