Artist's Description

An allegory of dilemmas. Sometimes we are faced with dilemmas that tear us apart…

Sparagmos (σπαραγμός) means in Greek tearing to pieces, laceration, but also anguish, wrench, writhing, painful emotion.

In ancient Greek mythology, “sparagmos” refers to an ancient Dionysian ritual in which a living animal, or sometimes even a human being, would be sacrificed by being dismembered, by the tearing apart of limbs from the body. Sparagmos was frequently followed by omophagia (the eating of the raw flesh of the one dismembered).

Technique: ink on paper, photomanipulation and digital drawing

The female figure is inspired and readapted from an Ancient Greek pottery painting.
