Isn’t that bike just amazing! There were some really cool things all along the street, knitted galahs in the trees, knitted blossoms, zany, wonderful things.

Brilliant find and capture, is this Freo? And excuse my ignorance but what is “yam bombing”, it looks like those pom-pom thingies you made as a kid at school :P (remember those?)
Thanks, so glad you like it! No, it’s not Freo, although it has a definite Freo air. It was part of a festival (of Perth?) held along Beaufort St. in Mt. Lawlwy. Women in a local shop organised installations all along the street of what is known as knitting graffiti or yarn bombing. It’s becoming a popular form of street art – this was a legitimised venue and opportunity – there were all kinds of delightful things – knitted galahs perched in the trees, this piece that a friend of mine made,
and if you look closely at the picture of the shopfront I just linked you to, you can see a reflection of a pub balcony festooned with ‘arm knitting’ ie knitted on one’s arms instead of knitting needles.

oh “y a r n” bombing, oops lol I thought it read “y a m”, well that makes more sense, and what a brilliant art form. I recognise the location now, actually I can see Plant Video in the top right corner :). Must make a trip out there again, I was out there a few weeks back trying to find some “graffiti” (I prefer the term “street art”) and was horrifed to find the wall I was looking for torn down :(
I’m getting an absurd visual here of sweet potatoes being dropped out of planes…..Or even worse, bombs being dropped on unsuspecting root vegetables.

wow I love this. I’ve recently made a tree from a bike frame, in a very similar way, but using fabric in place of yarn! I wouldn’t mind giving it a go with yarns though, it actually looks a lot better!! oooh inspiration, thank you!

I’ll take one, I do have some pictures, it’s a bit ragged at the moment, the kittens are using it as their climbing frame, but it’s adding the the character so that’s quite interesting. I’ll upload some :). I made a tree with an umbrella too, and a whicker covered wine bottle, that’s in my photo’s somewhere.
