try automation let your hand do the work and decide what to do, start with a non discript squiggle and make something from it, or maybe its time to do a self portrait…..........any how goodluck….........jake

Having a similar problem. Only thing I can think to do is draw what I’m feeling…really feeling, , no matter how goofy or odd it turns out. Sometimes it works…..
I hope your block clears soon!

i am by no means a visual artist i tinker with language so with that in mind i’ll give a different perspective which may or may not give you food for thought….for myself i realized that i was always writing whether actively putting something down or not and what appeared initially as a “block” was in fact over 90% of the time a need to process….during those times i often give myself exercises to work on craft/technique not inspiration/art….for example i recently finished three interrelated series, a great deal of tinkerings in a very short time frame and currently need to recharge my batteries as it were…i have given myself a spiritual and craft exercise with no expectations in the meantime…it’s for me; 1 tanka a day and one part of my preferred translation of the Tao Te Ching a day….so perhaps some sort of exercise might help if your general genre is paint/charcoal do pen and ink of kitchen utensils for xample…and i’ve probably bored you to tears at this point so will leave off and wish you well…

Artists block’s like writers block are a simple figment of the imagination that often grow as the figment takes hold. You need to be brave and say enough is enough & just simply start by painting or creating anything without initially getting to emotionally involved with the subject.
These creations will then hopefully overide the figmated block & you will be able carry on with your practice.

PS: If this doesn’t work try communion with nature or staying in for a month with a crate of whisky..
Hope this is of some help. Andy
