I love the unexpected thread of your work – each piece wonderful/thought provoking – but most of all I am enjoying the journey.

  • Thomas Dodd replied

Thank you Ariane – I suppose I am too (because I am definitely making it up as I go along!)

As so much of your work does, this image allows for a lot of personal reflection. . . and a little of the unknown in interpretation.

That’s why I would go with the cropped image. It has a little more effect of the idea of “Fallen”.
It looks a little more twisted. . .where as the full image seems a little too soft and sweet.

    Both are beautiful though.

  • Thomas Dodd replied

Nicholas – I am glad that you see my work that way – as something which allows the viewer to fill in the emotional blanks rather than giving them something which is obvious or (shudder) just eye candy…

    Thanks for reaffirming my decision

Definately the second one for me [although they are both outstanding]. I like the tight crop because it gives more emphasis on the models hand and face. Her hand gently holding her heart and the expression on her face tells a story – a sad story of fallen spirit – yet its powerful with a hint of – I cannot be held down and a determination. This is one stunning pice of work indeed.

  • Thomas Dodd replied

Thank you Julie – I agree that it is a more subtle perspective and pulls you in more to her emotional state…
    Thanks!

Sorry, definately this one for me [not the second one as written above]

I think the cropped version is better. It does what I think art should do and that’s make me think and scrutinise. The uncropped is kind of too obvious in a way. Just my opinion though… :o)

  • Thomas Dodd replied

Thanks SquirrelGirl – I appreciate your opinion very much and it is always welcome here…

It’s more unsettling… disturbing, if you don’t crop it. You are more aware of her landing. If you crop it… it’s not so distracting and you can spend more thought on her fall. Wonderful image! I just love your work! It never fails to bring on a multitude of thoughts and emotions. Bravo!

  • Thomas Dodd replied

DF – thank you for your insight and the high praise… It is truly wonderful to hear that my work can trigger emotional responses and musings….
to me – there is no greater praise than that… I want the viewer to be able to “complete” the work…always…
