Daddy's Girl
...
The wounded part of her
is sealed with his abandonment
buried deep inside
and still she feels his disapproval
She seeks it in a million men
she rejects them like he rejected her
and still she remains
the little girl whose love was twisted
all those years ago
(dedicated to my ex)

very deep. i think alot will be able to relate to this..
butchart
indeed there is an overwhelming sadness to this Thomas… i’m trying to ascertain whats in the upstairstair’s window… i’m thinking daddy…but my monitor is telling me puppy dog… wish i could see the original…. also the blue ankle piece… trying to figure that one out…..... man your images are so interactive….............b
Thomas Dodd replied
Butch – I posted a detail shot for you: as REM said “That’s me in the window…”
Thank you as always my detail-observing amigo!
Antanas
superb
Thomas Dodd replied
Thank you Antanas!
Laurie McClave
I just can’t talk about this yet…..
Thomas Dodd replied
That’s ok my dear – you know I’m a good listener…

very emotional. Poor soul looks so distraught & in such pain. and the Dog in the window, has a devilish look about him. Brilliant piece. Even though we carry baggage with us into relationships & can’t leave the suitcases outside the door it still hurts when we hurt our new partners even tho we try not to
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks Pinky – thanks so much and you are right – we ALL have baggage – it’s just a matter of how heavy it is – Some luggage is just not totable!
Psssst – that dog in the window is me…
;P
butchart
sorry i called you a puppy dog…...........b
Thomas Dodd replied
Ha ha Butch – no offense taken – I did one of those “hold the flashlight under your face” shots for that pic so I know I don’t exactly look fetching! (mmmm – “go fetch”?!)
Paul Louis Vil...
A moody and atmospheric artful creation, well done Thomas! :D
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks Paul – I appreciate the kind words!
etta
A lonely piece, Thomas.
Abandonment. Rejection.
The hurt as a child is something that does not quite heal.
And so…it is herself she holds…
Often, a comfortless comfort…
Such a lonely piece, Thomas.
Thomas Dodd replied
etta – you have a very perceptive and insightful vision ma’am
Thank you for the comment!
butchart
ohhhhhhh.. the things i could say…...............b
Thomas Dodd replied
yes indeed B – and I did notice you’re on your best behaviour!
;D

A bit different spin from your usual ‘unique’ style Thomas! The purple/blue hues are marvelous….....I love this work very much….............

Thomas, this is such an emotional piece, I can see it brought a lot of resonance in other people, most of it has been said already, just want to add a little. in every one of us still lives this little girl, who wants to hide so no one else can find her and see a pain in her eyes, when no matter how hard she tries, she still thinks it is not good enough. I think it often happens to a girl, who was a first child, when daddy wanted a boy.
Without reading the words, it is applicable to everyone. But I do sence a hope, for she turned away, as if she is trying to get free from that pain and guilt.
Thomas Dodd replied
That’s a pretty interesting and accurate take (at least I think so!) Andromedae – I once did a piece called “The Inner Child isn’t Always Pretty” and I think a lot of those feelings of rejection and inadequacy get burned into our subconcious at an early age. I also think that acknowledging it and identifying the pattern is the first step to excorising it from our behaviour…
Krisso
It’s work like this that motivates me to taking photos! Thanks for the inspiration mate!... Awesome!
Thomas Dodd replied
Krisso – always glad to be of inspiration man – you are such an encouraging positive soul – thank you as always!

Thomas I have no doubt she would love as much as I do. Its an awesome work of art and emotion. Without all the trials life throws our way, all the challenges, disappointments, pain, and losses. without having to struggle and overcome all of these things. I do not think we would appreciate all the good things we recieve…at least not as much. I think it would just be taken for granted. Perhaps I am wrong but I know personally I try very hard to let the people I love and care for know how I feel. Having lost 2 very important people in my life at such a young age it made me truly appreciate the gifts/people I have in my life. So although this is painful. It also is a reminder of all the above and that I got through it and learned to love and even trust. I hope you do more like this. You did it very well. {{ hugs}} V
Thomas Dodd replied
Yvonne – you are someone who I think we can all learn from – just the things you told me about how you make your marriage last should be written down – it would be a must-have book!
There is too much negative crap passing as advice from all the Dr. Phils and Lauras of the world… Sometimes all the psychobabble and 12 Step platitudes obscure the fact that leading a happy healthy life is really quite easy – you just treat people the way you want to be treated (just like Mom said!) and if they want to be an asshole in response – you find someone who will appreciate it!
Amanda Hammock
Outstanding manipulation.
Thomas Dodd replied
Thank you kindly Ms. Hammock!
Karen Cougan
Brilliant peice of work…............if your art speaks and stirs emotion then that’s all you can ask for as an artist…...............you have a winner here…........congrats
xkc
Thomas Dodd replied
Thank you very much Karen – that is the best compliment an artist can recieve…
giovanni
evokes a deep sense of sorrow and despair and loneliness…approval has to come from within…wot a great piece…
Thomas Dodd replied
giovanni – thank you so much!
myoriginalsin
Wow this is so powerful and emotive. I found myself having to stare at it for quite some time. Impressive work…
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks myoriginalsin!
Geoff Coleman...
Beautiful and emotive piece this Thomas. I’m afraid the figure in the window does look like a dog but in a way that gives it an interesting surreal touch. This made me think of an alternative compositional scenario where instead of having her head down she’s looking over her shoulder (literally and metaphorically) to the character who so dominates her emotional life, arms by her side with one hand clenched and the other with fingers splayed to heighten the tension.
Thomas Dodd replied
Thank you Geoff
I’m still not seeing the dog – but then again – I thought it was only the women who see us as dogs!
Interesting recomposition of the piece – perhaps I’ll do something like that in the future – Thank you as always!
Helene Kippert
Stirring and powerful Thomas
Thomas Dodd replied
Thank you kindly Helene!
darkestartist
the depth is amazing, both figurative and literal. your prose is an exquisite fit to the piece, and this one actually made me gasp. Love the textures as always, and I confess, I looked for text and book parts…;)
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks DA – I think I may be entering a new phase, but who knows: I may return to the text thing again at some point in the future (and of course – an avid reader like yourself is probably always looking for a good new book!)
Wizard
quite a stirring work, well done !
Thomas Dodd replied
Thank you kindly Mr. Wizard!
Jessica Stephens
..so haunting
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks Jes!

great work thomas.
i like the focal point you chose and the blur is enough but well balanced not to be too much. clever, arty and stylish. cheers!
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks MhDkHr!
Liesl Yvette W...
Tom this is such a powerful piece. I spent years working with abused children and this image brings to mind a thousand different stories…all the same and completely different. now what I mean. Well done you…not an easy subject matter.
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks Liesl – I wanted to convey someone who was more emotionally wounded than an outright abuse victim… although I think the line between the two is not so delineated or absolute…
Stewart Wood
WoW, this is great work, i love the detail in this work. Fantastic.
Thomas Dodd replied
Thanks Stewart!
Ariane
This piece is the most painterly Ive seen of your work yet – fantastic – and totally emotive – – always tugging at the heart strings and soul you are.
Thomas Dodd replied
I suppose it’s fitting that I ( as someone who used to play the harp) should still be tugging at strings…
;D
Thanks Ariane!
Theresa Rankin
Excellent ….again….and says so much. It is a beauty to look at…..and your concept comes across so well. Bravo!
Thomas Dodd replied
Theresa – thank you so much – I appreciate it!
aglaia b
wow, a really moody, dark, emotive piece.
lovely dedication.
love the way her white clothing contrasts with her surroundings.
another masterpiece!
;-) xox
Thomas Dodd replied
aglaia -thank you as always my lovely-avatared friend!
;D
janrique
Wonderful Thomas. So many people could relate to this and gain comfort from it. Excellent work as always. May I ask who or what is at the window, it looks like a fox or a wolf but I can’t make it out? Not important as far as the image is concerned but I am just intrigued!
Thomas Dodd replied
janrique, I suppose it is now a general consensus that I am the “Doggy in the window” – I have been told several times that I have very lupine/wolven features so I guess that gives this piece a more predator/prey feel…
Thank you as always my dear – now I’m going to go bury my bone in the garden…..
;P
gypsycaster
Ouch. This is a truly wonderful piece, but a little painful.
As always though, wonderful piece!

aglaia b
hey congratulations you are famous all over again! LOL xo love your work!
Kim Hart
That’s messed up, but in a realistic and relatable way where you’re not sure cuz of all the emotion in the picture or cuz you’ve been there at some point in life with someone/something. Hard to leave the past behind you.
Love the fact that it’s hard to tell how you did this picture. Seems parts are so clear they look photographed; other parts look done by hand.
Sandy Stewart
Wow, what an emotional statement this amazing image portrays! very well done and I love the story you typed out for it too!
April Mansilla

This work strikes up a lot of emotion in me, no doubt! I love it though. Fathers can leave scars that run deep. But when they heal there are no words to decribe it. That’s why I paint. I like your image. Great Work!

Exquisite Soul´s feature of the Núbile rejected by her father…
A matter of deep psychoanalitical fundations.
The seed… for the craving of intercourse with men.
The pit of undervaluation…. and fear.. needing for protection..
Out of home…
Out of herself.
She will be looking for “him”..
remaining a little girl… in a part of her soul.
Rosa (what can I tell you?... it is beautiful Thomas)

So much raw pain & emotion this stirs up. Deep.

Thomas my ex suffered because of her father. He went to work one day when she was six years old and never came back as he ran off with his mistress – and in doing so fucked up her life (sorry about the language) and she still cannot form lasting relationships. An amazing piece of work, powerful and emotive, just as art should be when required.
TaniaLosada
Perturbing…
catherine walker
wonderful..well done!
Lynn Moore
How do you know so well the minds of women, both young and old? A woman of any age could claim this image as her own story. And the writing too reveals an understanding I’m not sure many men could express. Your work is a story waiting to be told. I hope many tell them in response to this beautiful piece and experience healing as a result.
