Artist's Description

A fusion work with elements from an antique store in Pennsylvania, the Eastern State penitentiary in Philadelphia, and my home. I was moved to produce this work by what I say in the Penitentiary and by reading Bugliosi’s Divinity of Doubt. The symbolism of the elements should be apparent. At this prison the Quakers kept prisoners in strict isolation without communication, thinking that this would help them to reflect and be penitent. Unfortunately the isolation drove them mad. In thinking about this in relation to divinity I was moved to think about how doubt might be expressed in a work. My wife finds the statue confusing, but if you think about it as representing innocence its placement is perfect.
