I don’t usually take photos of people but it’s something I’d like to get into.
I’m wondering what your honest opinions are of this image, and if you can think of a title for it, that would be terrific.

A young girl dancing in a band called Kobya who were performing at Launceston Festivale, Tasmania, Australia.

Great music with an African slant if you ever get a chance to see them.

This is beautiful Bob. The white head scarf stands out wonderfully… Love your framing too and the way you’ve captured her arm… and her face in profile! LOVELY :o)

  • Thankyou Karen, I’m trying some different subjects for me and I’m quite happy with the way this has turned out. Glad you like it.

This is a fine, fine portrait. You caught all the grace that’s obviously inherent in this woman & turned it into a different kind of art work (different from her own dancing, that is). Lots of titles spring to mind, but they’re fairly obvious & maybe trite – ‘African Magic’; ‘The Dance: Light & Dark’; ‘A Wave for the World’. Just a few. I’d say you have a talent for this kind of work; let’s see some more.

  • Thankyou very much Sheila. I’d like to do more … stay tuned :)

amazing contrast, her skin and that kind of hat/scarf. If you want honest opinion.. you need to get closer next time:) I would call it simply The Black in White.

  • Thanks Marcin, very much appreciated

Get into people, it is fun and satisfying. Great conversion to B&W in my opinion and I wouldn’t crop it closer. I think her bhack and armsd are critical to the photo and communicates she is dancing. Tony

  • Thankyou Tony. I do find ‘people’ photography satisfying and I hope to do some more.

well I think it’s bout time you were taking more portraits Bob, this is stunning!! A hidden talent! Why not put Kobya as the title, then anyone who is a fan will find it easily in a search…..

  • Thankyou Holly, I enjoy taking portraits but finding people who are willing to be photographed is the problem.
Great idea about the title … “Kobya” it is.
