One lone desk in an otherwise empty classroom.

The ghost town that is Humberstone, an abandoned nitrate mining town in the Atacama Desert, near Iquique in northern Chile.

I’ve converted it to B&W in PS CS4 and on another layer in Overlay blending mode I’ve used a texture of the patterns that the sun makes on the sandy bed of a tannin stained creek.

    Nadya Johnson

Great mood and somehow, a sense of loss – nostalgia – passing time – just beautiful!

  • Bob Wickham replied

Thankyou Nadya, the whole town has that sense of loss. A complete town that was just pushed aside when artificial fertilizer was invented, making the natural mined product obsolete

The texture works really well, gives it an abandoned feel. Love it.

Thankyou Rachael, the texture helps it. I think textures are beneficial as long as they’re not overdone.
