Belle's Starlet
That’s her name, ask her again and she’ll tell you the same :) Yep that’s what the tag says on her ear. She must be extra special. She is a genuine Texas Longhorn, she has the horns to prove it :) Isn’t she grand???
I just took this today, August 11, 2008. Went out for a job interview, stopped back by and took more photos of these beauties. It’s a cloudy, overcast day here in Texas, 93 degrees with scattered thunderstorms in the forecast. Pray for rain, we need it.

Hi Glenna, what sort of temprement do Longhorns have? Are they protective when they have calves …. The reason I ask is .. I entered a field of about 50 cows and calves the other day and once they’d spotted me, all hell was let loose, they all started running and sounding off in my direction …. I made a quick exit out the gate !!!
It’s great to see a photo like this, I’ve never seen a Longhorn in real life …. only in westerns on TV. She looks quite a bit smaller than our cows, but those horns certainly make up the difference …...... :))
Glenna Walker replied
Well I don’t know about temperament, I was on the other side of a very tall iron fence, they were fine with me as long as I was on the opposite side. I would never go inside with them, not with those horns and they did have babies around, so no way, I kept my distance. They are not small either, they may look smaller in this photo, but they are quite a big larger than your average cow, at least these longhorns were. I’m glad you were able to make a quick escape, yikes!!!!

Have a look “here” .http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:large/view:main/955180-5-highland-cow-and-her-calf-on-a-scottish-croft.jpg…. and see what I mean

Sorry here
Glenna Walker replied
That is awesome, and even a bunny rabbit in there too, you should add that to your portfolio, it’s great!!!!!!!!! If those are regular cows, then they are GIANTS compared to our cows here in TX :) Thanks for sharing that Richie!

Great Longhorn!! Yes she IS GRAND!! Funny thing, I got a few shots of two Longhorn bulls just yesterday here in Kentucky! Don’t know their temperment on a large scale but thee two were very friendly and trotted right up to the fence …waiting for a hand out of fresh grass from my side of the fence!!! lol—gave a small handfull with a very long arm…..didn’t want those horns to suddenly turn and hook me!!! But they were very gentle!
Glenna Walker replied
Oh thank you so much Ruth – longhorns are the best. I was very careful of putting my hands and arms through the fence, they seemed gentle enough, but they have no idea how dangerous their horns are :D So glad you like her and thanks for commenting, it means so much to me!
