The words
they are poison in my mouth,
but I say them anyway.
They hurt you,
rubbing salt into a wound,
I am sorry,
but they are meant to hurt you.

I am not
the once nice person
that you thought you knew,
I use words to hurt
because it means
that I am in control
or so I pretend

The words are bitter
they are more than cruel
and it doesn’t even
hurt me to say them
though I do feel the acidity in them.

I say them to poison you
so you can’t hurt me
