William Thomas

I’m currently an MFA candidate at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

In 2009, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Painting & Drawing.

I love the process of making these unique records of people. Although I reference photographs in my painted and drawn work, I feel that they have a different quality, a different character than photographs.

I’m crazy about portraiture, but I do take time to see other things. Even with all that seeing, I think because of my familiarity with faces I haven’t spent much time drawing or painting much else, or delving deeply into my imagination, but hopefully in the coming months I will take some time to do both of those. I love learning new things and I want to continue to grow as an artist.
