The intimate demonstration of tone. A superlative illustration of chroma. The poetic presentation of hue. These are the basic elements of art one can expect to experience when viewing the work of fine artist Cordell Ross, Jr. His designs are byzantine, elaborate and vivid. The incredible attention to detail is what encapsulates his bold images and captures the eyes and hearts of his audience.
Born in Southern California, Ross grew up around architecture, fine art, cinema and cultural diversity. These influences are prevalent in his abstract and concrete works of people, places and objects. He uses both classic art (i.e. paint, pencil, pastel) and modern art (i.e. design, digital, photography), demonstrating the graceful fluidity that emerges when past and present embrace.
This fusion makes Ross, as a fine artist, transcendent. His designs are interpretive masterpieces that reveal the panache within culture, revolution, humanity and nature. Reaching across gender lines, closing generation gaps and galvanizing the value of ethnic heritage and traditions, Ross challenges his viewers to not only see life in art but to also see life as art.
Ross graduated from The Academy of Arts University San Francisco with a Bachelor of Arts. In his matriculation, he discovered that his creative palette is multi-faceted. Having an aptitude for painting, pencil work, photography and graphic design, Ross has explored his love for art, and artistic expression, without restrictions. Whether he is featuring his collections in galleries and exhibitions or he is designing for movie studios and independent artists, Ross has proven that he is skilled and capable of creating art for any purpose.
Echoing the words of George Bernard Shaw, “use works of art to see your soul,” Ross boldly obliges his designs to touch the subterranean echelons of human consciousness. Using color, Ross challenges his audience to experience the emotional splendor of lacquers. And, using black and white, he compels them to contemplate the intelligent intricacies of density. This ability to create art in a variety of dimensions is one of Ross’ specialties.
By combining experience with skill, his designs are intuitive and fully show how the calligraphic stroke of mind convenes with the canvas of life. His collections are more than photos, graphic designs or paintings. They are active art, permeating the verve, or energy, that is shared between artist and observer. Capturing this interconnectedness is what distinguishes his work. Ross’ designs remind us that the world isn’t just beautiful but bold, audacious, and more importantly, one.
According to Ross, “Creative eyes will always find beauty in the commonly unseen.” The world is indeed a beautiful masterpiece. It is an opus of tone, chroma and hue waiting for its inhabitants to take notice. And, as a fine artist, Ross finds this beauty, displays it and urges us to do the same.
Cordell Ross, Jr. is currently bicoastal, residing in both Los Angeles, California and Atlanta, Georgia.
