I Like Things was established by Lily Mae Martin and Gene Hammond-Lewis in early 2007. We are based in Melbourne, Australia and design posters, clothing, badges, toys, logos and many other things.
We are not idealists, trying to make story book illustrations of children on swings, or rococo-style images of gilded birdcages and elaborate wallpaper. Nor are we revolutionaries, churning out deep sociopolitical slogans to unite the people and rise above corrupt government tyranny. We are simply making the things that we like.
Lily Mae Martin is the artist behind I Like Things. Bunnie came to life many years ago when Lily was very bored in class, and since then he’s never really left. Lily figured that as long as she was stuck with him, he may as well help pay the rent, so she uses him in her drawings.
Gene Hammond-Lewis is the guy with the computer. When Lily has done a drawing she give it to Gene, who promptly pushes buttons and fiddles with switches and knobs to make it into a shirt or a poster or any other number of things. He also occasionally operates the sewing machine, but he keeps that quiet so as not to impeach his masculinity.
I Like Things can be mildly political, sometimes cheeky but always cute. Please enjoy and respect. Everyone deserves something cute in their lives.
