Although the main focus of this painting is a vase with yellow chrysanthemums, I was most fascinated by the juxtaposition of three chairs in the background. For me, they represent the human presence – somebody has just left the dining table, or maybe moved the arm chair into the living room. It’s very quiet in the house now.
