For me, each painting has its own story to tell with its own leading figures and supporting actors. In this painting, there is not one, but three leading stars of the show – the pears. They are intimately grouped together as though scared, hiding under the protection of several voluptuous jars and vases. Or maybe they’ve taken cover behind these stout figures in order to gossip about their mutual friend.
