Ivy Izzard
Profile
As a child I spent a great deal of my time in a world peopled by fairies, dragons and a host of fantastical hybrid creatures. My first artistic endeavours were a (mostly unsuccessful) attempt to reproduce and retain them when the mundane world threatened to annihilate the one in my head.
After four years at the Queensland College of Art and two years working in advertising I discovered the joys of travel and spent years overseas but my interest in art dwindled.
My renewed interest in fantasy art arrived with my first computer (Mac LC575) which came packaged with Photoshop. I started off transforming innocuous and generally poor quality family photos. I tried to make them as realistic in style as they were fantastical in subject matter. I mostly depict children because they belong to my childhood.
My references are generally photos I’ve taken in the last 20 years or so.
Some of my works are manipulated photos and some are painted or drawn entirely with Photoshop.
